The Ledger of Small Distances

Meet Dr. Owen Marsh, a rural veterinarian in Northern Ontario who has spent thirty-one years practicing exactly the same way. Since the loss of his wife, Ruth, Owen has been "defending a position" and resisting the encroachment of a corporate buyout, believing that keeping things exactly the same is the only way to stay close to her.

Everything changes when he discovers a hidden list in an old 1997 logbook— a series of "wonderings" Ruth wrote about a future they never quite started. This tale is a journey through the "blue shadows" of a Canadian March, exploring how we find the courage to stop standing still and start walking toward a larger, wilder world.
